The volunteer citizens of l’îlot des murmures are at the heart of a citizen movement to appropriate public spaces. Around ten volunteer citizens have supported the CEUM by taking over municipal land and working as volunteers to redevelop it.

Pierre Croisetière is at the heart improving the safety of the visually impaired. As a person with a visual impairment, he has been involved with the RAAMM for 10 years, serving on the Board of Directors from 2012 to 2017 and on ad hoc committees, and has already performed three inspection tours of audible traffic signals in Montréal to date.

Rob Lurie is at the heart of a difference one person can make in the lives of others by giving of oneself. A journalist at CTV News for 22 years, he has shined a spotlight on major media events that have made him a friendly face at the Cummings’ activities such as the Annual Volunteer Recognition Party, an event in which he has been involved for 10 years.

Rajaa Al Dawalibi is at the heart of the inclusion of intercultural diversity. Rajaa fled Syria after the civil way and immigrated to Québec. In less than three years, she left everything that was familiar to her, learned French, completed a college education, and works at an accounting job… all thanks in large part to her involvement as a volunteer with Little Brothers!

This young vice-chair of the Women’ Y Board of Directors has many important responsibilities, such as chairing the Generation W Committee, which brings together young professionals dedicated to the organization.

This first winner of the jury’s Special Mention award has been involved in causes such as supporting homeless women, sexual assault victims, persons with eating disorders, and families in need. At only 26 years old, she already has 14 years of volunteering experience under her belt, has hosted talks on TEDxQuébec and WE Day, and won a Woman of Distinction Award from the WOMEN’S Y Foundation.

Élodie Vandwalle is a passionate graphic artist who decided to share her talents with the Centre de Loisirs communautaires Lajeunesse by creating all communications materials for two of the organization’s benefit events. This first skills-based volunteer in the organization inspired the Centre de Loisirs to approach other professionals to offer them volunteering opportunities.

The CECI’s Club des ambassadrices is a group of 65 influential women in Québec who are united in the fight for equality between women and men and the autonomy of women around the world. By supporting initiatives encouraging entrepreneurship through philanthropic and outreach activities, these ambassadors care about meeting the real needs of the women they support as adequately as possible, such as by supporting a five-year project in Burkina Faso to strengthen the economic power of female rice parboilers by increasing the value of rice produced in the country.
